What does Crop Image do?

Crop Image is a free online tool that can crop image by geometry string. The PNG result from Crop Image is a separate copy to inspect before you use it elsewhere. One possible use is portrait framing adjusted for a profile image.

Image cropping keeps a rectangle from your source and saves that area as a new PNG. The form uses a string such as 800x800+0+0 to set the box you keep.

Its first two numbers give the width and height of that box in pixels. The last two numbers move the box across and down from the source corner.

A pixel is one dot in the image, so these are image units rather than print inches. Plan the box before you send the file, since this form has no drag-to-crop preview.

Check that the face, text or object you want still fits inside the box. The geometry field gives width, height and an offset.

An offset is the starting position. The origin is at the upper-left corner of the image.

Write down the desired rectangle before uploading. Check that the subject and important labels stay inside it. A crop removes framing; it does not resize everything to fit.

Crop a picture to a rectangle online: steps

Before using Crop Image, decide what the new copy must contain and where it will be used. Set the crop width, height and two offsets in pixels, and make sure the box fits within the source. Review the upload area and all values required by the current Crop Image form.

  1. Choose the source

Check the face position in a new profile crop. For Crop Image, choose one source from your device. Keep a source copy for another attempt.

  2. Review the form values

Geometry (WxH+X+Y) controls a value used by Crop Image. The starting Geometry (WxH+X+Y) value is 800x800+0+0.

  3. Run the file task

Use Process Crop Image after checking the source and form values. Wait for the job to finish. An error means this attempt failed.

  4. Save and check the output

Check each edge of the crop for cut-off words, missing labels or parts of the subject you meant to keep. Store the output on your device. Name this copy separately from the original.

Trim image: uses for Crop Image

Crop Image can help with unwanted screenshot edges removed. It can also be used for diagram regions isolated for a report. The PNG result from Crop Image must suit the intended reading or editing step, so keep the source until that check is complete.

Formats and limits for Crop Image

The Crop Image form accepts the image formats in the table sources. Each Crop Image upload can be up to 300 MB, which equals 300 MiB. The allowed suffixes on the Crop Image page do not prove that a source has valid content inside it.

The new file leaves out the cropped areas. Your source stays on your device, and cropping does not add detail.

How this tool works

Crop Image uses ImageMagick to handle the source on the server. The Crop Image request uses your chosen input rather than any local editing project left on your device. Check the PNG contents produced by Crop Image before treating them as ready for another app or reader.

For Crop Image, your browser uploads the source to our file-processing server. This is a server task, not local editing.

Files are due for deletion within 1 hour. Cleanup runs during normal service operation. Keep a local download for future use.
